The Challenge

Freshmeat's existing store had a complicated multi-step checkout flow that led to high cart abandonment rates on mobile devices. Product listings were slow to load due to unoptimized high-res images, and users frequently ran into validation errors without clear form feedback.

Strategy & Implementation

We redesigned the shop from scratch, creating a unified one-page checkout stream with interactive feedback. Using Zustand for high-speed local cart updates, we bypassed the delay of round-trip network updates. We added smart postcode checkers to instantly confirm shipping eligibility and implemented next-gen image formats to keep listing interactions snappy.

Results & Business Impact

Cart abandonment dropped by 24% within two weeks of deployment. The new shopping flow has pushed total conversions up to a stable 6.2%, and mobile customers report a vastly smoother shopping experience from add-to-cart to final confirmation.
